The first Corporate Sustainability Assessment is sent to 2,000 companies. It is paper-based and all materials and evidence are returned as hard copies!

Dow Jones Indexes (now S&P Dow Jones Indices); SAM jointly launch the world’s first ever global sustainability benchmark, the Dow Jones Sustainability™ World Index (DJSI World).

2003

S&P Global Commodity Insights, formerly S&P Global Platts, launches its inaugural Annual Guidebook, documenting Platts Analytics’ fully integrated long term energy outlook.

2004

The Dow Jones Sustainability™ North America Index (DJSI North America) is launched.

2006

The Dow Jones Sustainability™ Australia Index (DJSI Australia) is launched.

S&P Global Commodity Insights, formerly IHS Markit Energy & Natural Resources, launched long term strategic scenarios, three alternative pathways to the future. Today, these scenarios go out to 2050 and represent various temperature change pathways, including 2.0 and 1.5 degrees.

2007

S&P Dow Jones Indices launches the S&P Global Clean Energy Index and the S&P Global Water Index.

2008

CICERO Shades of Green, now a part of S&P Global, delivers the first green bond Second Party Opinion (SPO) in the market, for the World Bank.

2009

The Dow Jones Sustainability™ Asia/Pacific Index (DJSI Asia Pacific) and Dow Jones Sustainability™ Korea Index (DJSI Korea) are launched.

S&P Dow Jones Indices launches low carbon benchmarks in partnership with Trucost, including the S&P 500 Carbon Efficient Index.

2010

Launch of the Dow Jones Sustainability™ Europe Index (DJSI Europe).

S&P Global Mobility, formerly IHS Markit, launches Light Vehicle Alternative Propulsion Forecast.

S&P Global Mobility, formerly IHS Markit, launches Hybrid-EV Portal.

2013

S&P Global Mobility, formerly IHS Markit, launches Sales-Based Powertrain Forecast.

2014

S&P Dow Jones Indices launches the S&P Green Bond Index and S&P Green Bond Select Index.

2015

S&P Dow Jones Indices launches a range of thematic ESG indices, including the S&P 500 Environmental & Socially Responsible Index, the S&P 500 Fossil Fuel Free Index and the S&P ESG Pan-Europe Developed Sovereign Bond Index.

S&P Global Mobility, formerly IHS Markit, launches Vehicle Performance and Compliance (VPAC) for CO2 emissions.

2016

S&P Global acquires Trucost.

2017

S&P Dow Jones Indices is the first index provider to publish sustainability characteristics for all listed equity indices on its website.

S&P Global Ratings launches its Second Party Opinion (SPO) service.

2018

S&P Global Mobility, formerly IHS Markit, launches CO2 Compliance Cost and Scenarios.

2019

S&P Dow Jones Indices launches the S&P 500 ESG Index.

S&P Global Commodity Insights launches hydrogen price assessments.

S&P Global Commodity Insights, formerly S&P Global Platts, launches price assessments for the low-carbon electricity markets including renewables generated and guarantees of origin, later expanded to include IRECs.

S&P Global Mobility, formerly IHS Markit, acquires Novation Analytics for energy consumption and fuel efficiency modelling.
