Head of Strategy & Market Development
Joseph Lake is Head of Strategy & Market Development at S&P Global Sustainable1, where he leads a team dedicated to identifying and capitalizing on transformative opportunities to advance the mission of Sustainable1. He serves on the Sustainable1 Leadership Team and his functional responsibilities include strategy, M&A, partnerships, market development, and segment solutions.
Prior to joining S&P Global, Mr Lake was a member of the Board and Chief Operating Officer at The Climate Service, now part of S&P Global, which leverages cutting-edge science and technology to assess and manage the financial implications of climate change on businesses and investments.
Mr Lake previously held the position of Managing Director for Climate Risk at The Economist where he enhanced the Economist Group's offerings and thought leadership in climate risk analysis.
Earlier in his career, Mr Lake was Global Director at the Economist Intelligence Unit, the business-to-business division of The Economist. In this role, he was responsible for steering the commercial success of the economic analysis and forecasting services, ensuring that clients received actionable insights to navigate complex global markets. Additionally, Mr. Lake has worked as an economic advisor to the Tanzanian Ministry of Finance.
Mr. Lake is a recognized authority on the economic and financial impacts of climate change. He advises multinational corporations, investors, policymakers, and private clients, and his insights are frequently featured in international media outlets.
He holds degrees in business management from Dublin City University, Ireland, and Reims Management School, France, as well as a master’s degree in economic development from the University of Nottingham, England.
